Systemic Perspectives on Portfolio Management, Behavioral Finance and Financial Culture
Abstract:
This empirical study reconceptualizes portfolio management from a series of isolated financial transactions into a complex, self-organizing socio-technical system. Grounded in general systems theory and cybernetics, the research introduces the regenerative wealth management framework, which integrates the financial market environment, cognitive-behavioral inputs, and financial culture into a dynamic feedback loop. The study posits that human behavioral biases are not anomalies to be eradicated, but intrinsic system noise that must be structurally managed through deliberate choice architecture. By evaluating 1,722 investment portfolios over short-term (3-month) and long-term (10-year) horizons, the research tests the systemic resilience of the Rolling Nuts (RN) portfolio models. The findings reveal profound scale independence and fractallike invariance: the system’s structural robustness remains constant regardless of time horizon, participant demographics, or sample size. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that imposing strict academic rationality disrupts the system's internal cybernetic feedback mechanisms. Instead, accommodating autonomous, intuition-based decisions within a rigid, simple structural framework (RN 4) enables the system to self-correct and achieve superior passive profitability. Ultimately, this research validates a paradigm shift in financial science, proving that optimal systemic performance is an emergent property of aligning structural allocation rules with natural behavioral tendencies rather than resisting them.
